Gezwa Groves shares her personal essay about Speaking Up

Gezwa Groves is a poet originally from the Kansas City area. She began practicing spoken word in 2013. She uses her words not only as a way of healing for herself but also as an expression to those to find their own way to speak up. She is a distanced mother of 3 teen-aged children that keep her world brightly lit. Gezwa studied at Cornell for two years before graduating with a BA in English Literature from the University of Iowa in 2001. After an early go in the restaurant business, following the family legacy, Gezwa became an educator. She has taught at the elementary school level for seven years. She is now retired and continues to pursue her quest for better mental health.

Gezwa performed her personal essay in the This Is My Brave The Corridor Show in 2017.
