Evan Grubb sings a song to his sister Audrey

Audrey grew up in Vermont with her family of 6, moved to Boston for college, and has lived there ever since. She is currently in her 3rdyear of grad school, and she will be graduating in May with her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling. In her free time, she enjoys running, biking, hiking, skiing, and anything outdoors. Audrey is in recovery from anorexia and has also struggled with anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts. She hopes to one day use her experiences to empower young people to discover their strength and find their own voice.

Evan is Audrey’s younger brother. Up until about 7 years ago he had little experience with mental illness. When he first learned about what his sister was going through, he was hit with an entire mix of emotions without barrier: anger, fear, empathy, guilt. At first, he thought, there’s an easy solution here, just eat! But soon he learned that it had become a core part of who Audrey was. It wasn’t a question of eliminating the illness, but more harnessing the ability to direct it towards strength. In 2012, Evan wrote a song called ‘Falling’ for Audrey to help her get through her tough times. Six years later, the words still ring true and he is beyond proud of her bravery.
