Amani is a Boston native with a persistent interest in people. She studied psychology, theatre, and how to be a basketball fan at Duke. Now she’s a premed post-baccalaureate student at Harvard and a health educator focusing on pediatric epilepsy. While Amani has never been formally diagnosed with a mental illness, her mental wellness has significantly impacted her physical health. This link between physical and mental health led her to found The TEAM Foundation of Boston, a nonprofit organization that addresses mental health issues in the student athlete community. Her work for the TEAM Foundation revealed the importance of redefining mental toughness to recognize the immense strength in vulnerability. She’s sharing her story on our stage because, as a mental health advocate, she feels like she should know what she is asking of others when she encourages candid storytelling. She would like to thank her “famsquad” for their unyielding support!
