#running4brave Scholarship announcement
It’s been a year since #running4brave and we have an exciting update to share!
As you may recall, after attending This Is My Brave’s performance at Briar Woods High School in October of 2014, local mom Annie Powell reached out to This Is My Brave to express her gratitude for what our organization was doing for the community. She wanted to do something to help us reach more teens, and she found the perfect way to volunteer when she signed up to run her first 1/2 marathon, fundraising for This Is My Brave during her three months of training.
Annie and her #running4brave team raised over $4k for This Is My Brave, and $1k of that total is going to be given back to our local community (since this is where we are headquartered) in the form of $500 continuing education scholarships to two (2) Loudoun county high school students this spring.
Scholarship Essay Contest Details:
This Is My Brave, Inc. is sponsoring its first essay contest for rising high school juniors and seniors who reside and attend a public, private or home school in Loudoun County, Virginia, where TIMB is based. There are no charges or fees required to enter this contest.
The mission of This is My Brave is to end the stigma surrounding mental illness by sharing personal stories of overcoming mental illness through poetry, essay, and original music, live on stage, through stories published to their blog, and via the organization’s thriving YouTube channel.
Each scholarship applicant is required to submit an essay of 800 to 1,000 words in length answering the following question:
As a society, what are the most important things we can do to reduce the stigma of mental illness?
To Apply & Deadline:
Each applicants essay must be sent via email to bravescholarship@gmail.com by midnight on Thursday, March 31st, 2016. Essay’s received after this date unfortunately will not be considered. Applicants full name, grade level, name of school, phone number and home address must be included on the top right of their essay.
Award Determination: The winner will be notified by phone on or before April 17th, 2016.
