Conquer Your Battlefield Podcast Ep:5 – Interview with Mike Grippo | Battling Imposter Syndrome

Welcome to the “Conquer Your Battlefield” podcast, where we come together to discuss some of the more significant struggles, and metaphorical battlefields, that we’ve faced along our journeys, and share some insight on how we’ve conquered them.

I’m JD McGibney, and in this episode I chat with the funny, compassionate, epic, totally metal, and all around great guy Mr. Mike Grippo of Kissing Candice

In this episode we talk about “Imposter Syndrome.” Loosely defined, Imposter Syndrome is when a person doubts their abilities and feels like a fraud. Some of the things one with imposter syndrome might be experiencing are:

  • An extreme lack of self-confidence
  • Feelings of inadequacy
  • Constant comparison to other people
  • Anxiety
  • Self doubt
  • Distrust in one’s intuition and capabilities
  • Negative self-talk
  • Dwelling on the past
  • Irrational fear of the future
  • Taking on extra work to make sure you’re “doing it all.”
  • Shrugging off accolades

According to the American Society of Microbiology, about 70% of people are affected in some way, at some point, by imposter syndrome. It is not currently recognized by the DSM-5 as a mental illness, rather it is an overall perspective on how one views themselves.
