ANAD Presents This Is My Brave – The Show: Breaks the Deadly Silence of Eating Disorders

EVANSTON, Ill. – The National Association of Anorexia Nervosa & Associated Disorders (ANAD) will host an original This Is My Brave production celebrating the voices of eating disorder recovery while cultivating hope for the estimated 28.8 million Americans suffering from an eating disorder.

Twenty-one individuals are set to take the stage to share and perform their stories of eating disorder recovery through poetry, dance, song, comedy, and personal essay. Together, they seek to raise awareness and combat the stigma surrounding the nation’s second deadliest mental illness

After struggling with obsessive dieting and exercise for twenty years, Jason Wood was diagnosed with an eating disorder in 2020. He believes storytelling holds a key in erasing the stigma around mental health.

“I’m here today because storytelling helped save my life. Eating disorders want to isolate you and make you feel all alone. However, it was the stories of others that gave me hope and community during those darkest days.”

In recovery, Wood travels the country to share his story with college students. His memoir Starving for Survival remains one of the few books to provide a glimpse of the male experience with an eating disorder. Wood also serves as the Marketing & Communications Manager at ANAD and the production team lead for this special event inspired by This Is My Brave’s core belief that storytelling saves lives.

Join Wood and ANAD on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at 7 p.m. CT for ANAD Presents This Is My Brave – The Show. This event will be held at the McCormick Auditorium at Northwestern University at 1999 Campus Dr, Evanston, IL 60208 and will stream live online for a national audience.
