Panel Discussion: Talking with Kids about Mental Health
On Thursday March 20th at 7pm ET | 6pm CT | 4pm PT, Executive Director Jennifer Marshall hosts this important discussion on talking with our kids about mental health.
She’ll be joined by Desiree Vyas, PhD, a Licensed Clinical Psychologist/ School Psychologist, Scholastic Author Alyson Gerber, and This Is My Brave Teens Creative Director, Anastasia Vlasova. Learn more about the panelists below.

Dr. Desiree Vyas is a wife, mother of two children, and psychologist whose passion has always been to serve children by educating them in regards to their mental health, treating them holistically, and empowering them to reach their potential—regardless of the adversity they previously or currently face.
Alyson Gerber is the author of the critically-acclaimed, own-voices novels BRACED and FOCUSED published by Scholastic. Her third novel, TAKING UP SPACE, is a realistic and compelling story about struggling with body image and learning that true self-esteem comes from within. TAKING UP SPACE hits stores on May 18, 2021. She has an MFA from The New School in Writing for Children and lives in New York City with her family.
Anastasia Vlasova has been the force behind This Is My Brave’s Teen Instagram account, building up an audience of engaged youth from across the globe who are passionate about ending the stigma surrounding mental illness. She has her own lived experience with an eating disorder, and shares her story to inspire her peers to know that recovery is possible.
Jennifer Marshall is a mental health advocate and lives with type 1 bipolar disorder. She’s a firm believer in the power of storytelling, and has been open with her own kids about her experience living with bipolar from an early age. Jenn believes we should start early and speak often about mental health and mental wellness within our families and friend circles.
