In just over 2 weeks our brave storytellers in Denver will take to the stage to share their stories of overcoming mental illness through poetry, original music and essay. Today on the blog, we get to meet Denver cast member, Sam Hozdulick!
Tell us about yourself.
Born and raised in Dallas Texas. I moved to Colorado to follow music and am currently working as a financial counselor at a behavioral health hospital by day and working on my second studio album at night.
How has mental illness affected your life?
I have OCD. Before I knew treatment was available, the most basic things were a time consuming struggle. Intrusive thoughts got in the way of my daily routine.
Why did you want to be a part of This is My Brave?
It's important that people know they are no alone and that they have a support system.
What inspires you to stay mentally healthy?
I couldn't do my day job if I didn't. As far as music goes, it's in important for me to help people with my songs.
What do you hope the audience takes away from this show?
If one person hears my music and can relate to something they've heard... that's a success.
