1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

My name is Neha and I’m 15 and a junior in high school. I’ve lived in the DC area my entire life with my family. My parents were born in India and that is a large part of my life. I love theatre nd have done various productions, and the most important thing to me in the world is music. I absolutely love it, and songwriting is my favorite thing to do. Writing songs is what has gotten me through so many difficult times, and my hope is that listening to these songs helps other people too.

2. How has mental illness affected your life?

I have depression and it is something that constantly impacts my life. There were times when I didn’t think I could survive through it, and I have come very close to suicide. However, I fought through it. It was a long and difficult road, but I have finally reached a place where I’m okay. I can finally talk about it without fear. It is still something that I’m dealing with and I do have bad days, but I have come a long way.

3. Why did you want to be a part of This Is My Brave?

I have always wanted to get involved in raising awareness for mental illness, but I’ve always been too scared to. I was worried about what people would think, but I’m not scared anymore. I think that mental illness is something that needs to be talked about more and the stigma around it needs to end. I’m so thankful to be a part of this show and to be able to share my songs.

4. What inspires you to get or stay mentally healthy?

It may sound cheesy but music is what inspires me. Whether it’s playing the piano, singing, or even just listening to music, it makes me feel like I’m strong enough to face whatever is to come. Songwriting and being able to share those songs is what keeps me going through the day.

5. What do you hope the audience takes away from the show?

I hope that the audience leaves with a greater understanding of just how difficult mental illnesses are. I hope that if they are someone dealing with mental illness, they leave with a newfound confidence. I hope that our show inspires them and lets them know that they are not alone in this.
