Meet Iowa City cast member Meggie Pringer

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I hail from a small beach town in Rhode Island where everyone knows everyone.  I am the second oldest sister out of 5 sisters.  I love to read and moonlight as a casual girl who tried to run.

How has mental illness affected your life?

Mental Illness has affected my life in that my anxiety caused me to turn into an insomniac for the majority of my sophomore year in college year.

Why did you want to be a part of This Is My Brave?

I wanted to be a part of This Is MY Brave to spread awareness about the difficulties and issues surrounding Mental Health especially in college.  The lack of support that colleges give to the students has to change when they're supposed to be these hubs for information.

What inspires you to get or stay mentally healthy?

My inspiration to spread the word about Mental Health issues in college comes from my own experiences with anxiety and those that are still struggling in the dark to put words to their feelings.

What do you hope the audience takes away from the show?

I hope the audience takes away the importance of throwing around kindness like confetti. We do it fair too sparingly in a world that is sometimes too hard for those experiencing a loneliness that they shouldn't have to bear alone.

Join us in Coralville on May 13th at the Coralville Performing Arts Center as Meggie shares her story along with her castmates, to shine a light on mental illness. We hope to see you there!
