Meet Baltimore cast member Mecca Verdell

Our Baltimore show produced by Our Door, is only five days away.  We are proud to introduce you to cast member Mecca Verdell!

Tell us about yourself.

I have been a Baltimore youth poet for roughly two years. I have won an international championship and have a poetry radio show.

How has mental illness affected your life?

It has been a hard journey suffering Tourette’s syndrome, depression, and attention deficit disorder. My mental illnesses have been hurdles for me throughout my education and relationships but I have managed to find mental solace in poetry and performing.

What made you want to be a part of This Is My Brave?

I was offered to be a part of This Is My Brave and accepted immediately because there aren’t enough platforms for me to talk about personal issues specifically geared towards mental illness.

What inspires you to stay mentally healthy?

What inspires me is to keep battling my mental illness is the progress I have made through these past two years. I am very proud of the work I do with children and other artists and hope the audience can see how strong people like us can stand tall even with these chemical imbalances.

Tickets are now on sale for our Baltimore show on December 7th at Towson University, produced by Our Door! Hope to see you there!
