Catava Burton, of Richmond, VA has worked in the mental health and education fields for 20 years. She started speaking and training nationally after being diagnosed with ADHD, PTSD, generalized anxiety, and major depressive disorders. She uses storytelling, drama, humor, expressive arts, comedy and other means to convey the prevalence of trauma/mental health and to reject stigma, shame and pejorative labeling. Catava has been a featured contributor for The Mighty, a 2017 Human of Richmond, and awarded the Pioneer in Education for Trauma Informed Care at the Trauma Informed Schools Conference in St. Louis, MO. She is a daughter, God-mother, Fur-mama, sister, friend and soror to many. Catava’s purpose is to reframe the perception of mental health and trauma.
