Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Angela Nicole. Born and raised in Denver Colorado, I began writing short stories and poems at the tender age of 9. I've been performing poetry since 2006 and wouldn't have it any other way. Let my words pluck your heart strings.
How has mental illness affected your life?
Mental illness has affected many of my loved ones, specifically suicide, drug/alcohol addiction and depression. I've witnessed the dramatic life changing effect it has had on love ones. It's made me more caring and more willing to speak up and out about awareness.
Why did you want to be a part of This Is My Brave?
I want to be a part of TIMB because for so long people have swept their problems and feelings under the rug. I'm here to be the voice for the voiceless. Sometimes all people need is to hear a story similar to their own life to make them get up out of their own funk.
What inspires you to stay mentally healthy?
What inspires my constant mental health is the youth I serve in my community. Many of them battle with depression among other struggles. We have poetry workshops and use writing as a positive outlet.
What do you hope the audience takes away from the show?
After the show I truly hope the audience walks away with a completely different view of mental illness. I hope the show sparks an ongoing helpful conversation.
