Welcome to the “Conquer Your Battlefield” podcast, where we come together to discuss some of the more significant struggles, and metaphorical battlefields, that we’ve faced along our journeys, and share some insight on how we’ve conquered them.
I’m JD McGibney, guitarist of the band Angels on the Battlefield, and in this episode I chat with poetic, artistic, entrepreneurial, funny, and compassionate Adriana Green.
Today we are going to be talking about Borderline Personality Disorder, also referred to as “BPD.” According to the book I Hate You, Don’t Leave Me, about 18 million people in the US alone (roughly 6% of the population) exhibit primary symptoms of BPD. There are nine criteria associated with it, and a person has to exhibit a minimum of five of them in order to be diagnosed.
Out of all the people in the US that seek psychiatric treatment, between 15%-25% of them are diagnosed with BPD, making it the most common personality disorder. For the longest time, it was thought that BPD afflicted mainly women, but as research continues, it is believed that it afflicts men and women about evenly, it’s just that men are more likely to be misdiagnosed with PTSD, depression, or labeled as antisocial.
