Kasey Elliott Maher opens up about depression, anxiety, PTSD & OCD on the stage of This Is My Brave Boston in 2015. Kasey is a yoga teacher, a mother, a wife, a friend but most importantly she inspires and has the keen and compassionate ability to open people up. She has the gift of seeing the divine strength and beauty in each person. She was diagnosed with severe depression and suicidal ideation in 1999. She has spent many years volunteering in the mental health field. After her brother passed away in May of 2017 from an accidental overdose she could no longer stay silent. After searching tirelessly to find a non profit that inspired her, she discovered This is My Brave and was cast in Boston’s May 2018 Show. She believes that when you shift your perspective of mental illness from a place of fear to a place of love your diagnosis can become a superpower. When this shift occurs a miracle occurs. She believes we need to see more miracles. Being a part of This is My Brave was a miracle for her and she hopes she can inspire others to experience the same miracle.
Kasey Elliot Maher delivers her piece “Mental Illness Is My Superpower”
“In this moment I did realize what we are all born with. We are all born with divine love, divine strength, divine wisdom and divine courage. In that moment I connected to the divinity that abides in me. That is when my diagnosis became my superpower.”
