Ally Beard talks about anxiety and depression

Ally Beard addresses the topics of anxiety and depression with her piece “The Bookclub of Our Generation.” Ally lives in Attleboro, Massachusetts, with her younger brother and parents. She is currently studying psychology at Harvard University (Class of ’21). Her hobbies include running long distance, drinking endless coffee, and watching late night television. Ally became passionate about mental health in high school when she began struggling with anxiety and depression. In June 2017, Ally co-founded Running from Anxiety, a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing the stigma surrounding mental illness and promoting the mental health benefits of physical fitness. When presented with the opportunity to be a part of This Is My Brave, she jumped on it. She believes the easiest way to get rid of stigma is by having open conversations, and This Is My Brave provides a perfect example of that with a supportive community.
