Essay We Love: “Medicated” by Rhiana Maidenberg
I’ve written before about how our show is modeled after Listen To Your Mother and how much I admire the concept and the simplicity of the show. In 2010, Ann Imig created and produced the very first Listen To Your Mother show as a gift to her hometown of Madison, Wisconsin. The following year, LTYM expanded to four additional cities, and in 2012 the show doubled to share stories of motherhood in ten cities. Last year, Listen To Your Mother shows were held in twenty-four cities and this year the show’s magic will be felt in thirty-two cities across the United States during late April and early May.
We hope This Is My Brave might blossom the same way LTYM did, but our first goal is to put on the absolute best collection of stories we can bring together.
One of my favorite LTYM essays was read by Rhiana Maidenberg during the 2012 San Francisco show. This is a perfect example of a raw, emotional, vulnerable piece read from the heart which we’re hoping to hear during our upcoming auditions.
